President of NCDC Named to “NPT Power and Influence Top 50” for Fifth Consecutive Year

The NonProfit Times (NPT), the leading business publication for nonprofit management, named Sr. Georgette Lehmuth, OSF, President and CEO of the National Catholic Development Conference (NCDC), to The NPT Power and Influence Top 50 list for the fifth consecutive year. The NPT Power and Influence Top 50 recognizes top influential executives in the sector for their “impact now and innovative plans they are putting in place to evolve the charitable sector.” Sr. Georgette is the only individual from the Catholic sector recognized on the list this year.

NCDC Announces Fifth Annual Lumen Awards Winners

The National Catholic Development Conference (NCDC) is proud to announce the winners of the Fifth Annual Lumen Awards for excellence in the ministry of fundraising. Ten first place winners and four runners up were selected in eight categories, including prospecting, donor renewal, major donor appeals, publications with/out a gift envelope, accountability/annual report and integrated campaign.

Entries were classified into two divisions based on the gross philanthropic income of the nonprofit organization submitting the entry. Lumen Awards are judged based on a number of factors, including: creativity, copywriting, design, mission loyalty, call to action, results of the campaign, and overall concept/quality.

The “2010 Best in Show” award will be selected through popular vote at the 2010 NCDC Annual Conference and Exposition in Chicago, IL (Sept-18-22).

The Lumen Awards were created to acknowledge excellence in the ministry of fundraising and to enrich the Catholic development community through sharing this excellence. ...

WEBINAR: PURLs: A Simple Way to Get Started with Multi-Channel Fundraising

This session will focus on how to get going with multi-channel fundraising that doesn’t cost a lot of money and isn’t super complex involving too many channels. Participants will learn a simple and affordable way to get onto the “multi-channel” world through the use of PURLs, which nearly always boosts response rates when compared to direct mail alone.

How to Get Approval to Attend This Year’s Conference

In our current economic climate, getting approval to attend this year’s NCDC Conference may be more challenging for you now that it has been in the past. Here are four steps you can use to building a case for attending the Conference:

  • Write down the three to five most important strategies or issues being addressed in your organization right now.
  • Think about how you personally contribute to those strategies. How is your work aligned with the larger organization’s mission or strategy? Make a list of these “personal contributions to strategy.”
  • Look at the Conference schedule and mark the sessions you want to attend that relate to your list of personal contributions to strategy, and also make a note of speakers or other people at the Conference you would like to meet.
  • Write a short business case for how attending these sessions and meeting these people will help you contribute to the organization’s strategy. ...
